The Earth stays at its orbit because there are pressures from every point that is both pulling and pushing it to stay exactly where it has to stay. Imagine if there are no pressures holding every planet in the universe to stay where it has to stay. Pressures are everywhere in the universe as well as in our lives. Most of the time pressures are necessary for us to stay alive. At other times, however, pressures arising from stress and sin would bring us down and even makes us fall sick.
When we feel pressures caused by the problems and challenges we face in life, we may think that those pressures are much bigger than us. We may feel as if there is a power exerting all those pressures on us. And that this power could be dark and evil.
There is a world philosophy that it trying to explain this issue. It is called dualism and most often represented by the oriental concept of Yin and Yang. This philosophy explains that there are two eternal forces such as good and evil that are trying to make everything balanced. Each one of the two forces has equal power to balance the other.
As Christians, we have to know and believe that the Bible does not teach dualism. The Bible teaches us that God is the Only Ultimate Power in the universe. God is also the One who creates everything, and that “God is light;in him there is no darkness at all” (1 John 1:5).
God also always on our side to help us live our lives according to His will.
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28).
So now brothers and sisters in Christ, when we know that God is all power full and He loves us very much, let us not feel burdened and defeated when we face the pressures in our lives. Let us say together with the Psalmist: “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God” (Psalm 43:5).
